Making a difference in Uganda
Sixteen mothers die in childbirth in Uganda every day. That fact prompted Ryan Smith, a medical student at Drexel University College of Medicine in Pennsylvania, USA, to ask his Rotarian father how they could make a difference. The answer was a global grant project that has connected Drexel staff with counterparts at Makerere University School of Health Sciences in Kampala, Uganda, in an exchange of ideas aimed at reducing childbirth-related mortality and morbidity. |

After successfully building two international software companies, Australian entrepreneur and philanthropist Steve Killelea decided to dedicate most of his time and fortune to sustainable development and peace. His efforts include the Global Peace Index, a measure he created to quantify peace. Killelea will be a keynote speaker at the Rotary Peace Symposium and the Rotary International Convention in São Paulo. |
