I had been asked to go to one of the training nights at "SWIFTSURE", to present our Club's contribution to their planned trip to Halifax next summer.  I was to first of all "inspect" the members of the ship's company, and then talk to the cadets for a few minutes about why our club donates to them.  Before the parade, Lt. McArthur was showing me how the inspection of the group was to take place.  From our vantage point on the second floor of the armoury, we could see the cadets forming their ranks for the parade.  She pointed to one smaller cadet, and said that he was one of four children in a single parent home.  Also his Mom had a form of cancer, so it was doubtful that that cadet would be able to earn enough money to go on the upcoming trip.  I told Lt. McArthur that the donation that the Brandon Sunset Rotary Club had made was to be used at her discretion.

She was a bit  teary,  but said "That boy will be  going to Halifax!" - our donation will make that possible.

Sometimes, we may grumble and not be quite as enthusiastic about our fundraising as we should be, but that moment the other night, in the armoury, made all our hard work at the Beer Festival, flower delivery, Royal Winter Fair etc. made it all worthwhile!

I really had to share that moment with you.

Thanks
