Highlights from the meeting September 8, 2015

The Muppet Theme with Manon Mitchell on the Violin and yours truly on the piano helped escort our President Rob Brookwell and other “Cast of Characters” to the head table.  David Bromwich clarified the definition of Invocation identifying that it could be:
  • the action of invoking something or someone for assistance or as an authority
  • the summoning of a deity or the supernatural
  • an incantation used for this.
As an act of rebellion to the formal invocation definition, he offered a Thanksgiving where he eloquently identified many of the blessings we enjoy.

Dr. Paul Duffy of Team Broken Earth

Dr. Sonny Belenke introduced our guest speaker Dr. Paul Duffy, Division Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma in the Department of Surgery at the Foothills Hospital.  Dr. Duffy hails from St. Johns, Newfoundland where he began his university and medical training.  His training has taken him many places and we are fortunate that he now calls Calgary home.

We have the opportunity to take a leisurely Red Arrow ride to Aspen Crossing, board a fully restored vintage rail car for a four hour train ride. BBQ Volunteers Needed

We’re looking for a few volunteers to come out and have some fun.  You may be cooking, serving at a serving station, helping mix salads, setting up the serving tables, cleaning up, etc.  We all pitch in and do what’s needed and have a ton of fun along the way. Rotary/Mattamy Greenway Celebration: September 16, 2015 

The Rotary/Mattamy Greenway is developing well beyond expectations. According to the Calgary Parks Foundation 80% of the 138 km network of pathway and specialty parks, was completed by the end of 2014. Currently, the project is 90% funded and have contracts awarded that will see 90% of the $60 million Greenway completed by the end of this year.
