On a fabulous St. Patrick’s Day we gathered a large crowd into the Ballroom of the Palliser Hotel. The pianist (me) hit about 80% of the right notes to the Irish tune of MacNamara’s Band as President Ron, Mayor Naheed Nenshi and the head table marched in to begin the meeting. O Canada followed.
With great anticipation of Mayor Nenshi’s address stirring in the air, Bill Avery approached the podium to introduce his Worship. As the unruly crowd was heckling and getting out of control, Bill Avery channeled the energy into a spontaneous Sing Song of Home, Home on the Range. Never one to miss an opportunity, Bill was quick to point out to our many visitors an obvious benefit of joining Rotary – music! With the crowd satisfied, Bill talked of Mayor Nenshi’s background from the hallowed halls of academia where he now uses the skills of a teacher to help the truth to emerge as decisions need to be made. He then referenced Aristotle to further his point that Mayor Nenshi, as leader and teacher, is the man for the job.
