The Meeting June 7, 2016
By Ralph Lundberg
Michael Pierson was back on the piano for O Canada. President Rob called the meeting to order and presented Kelly Mitchell who delivered a short evocative invocation. After a period of fellowship and dining, Carmen Goss introduced visitors and guests then found two Rotarians present for their birthday recognition, Donna Livingstone and Bob Pearson.
Bill Kaufmann took the podium to introduce our speaker. An energetic young lady in a bright coloured dress was telling us how to create wealth through petroleum production without destroying the environment. Suzanne West has credentials though, having just raised $270 million U.S. to finance the activities of her company, Imaginea Energy.
There are a number of members of the Rotary Club of Calgary (RCC) on the Calgary Rotary Clubs Foundation (CRCF) Board. Each of the Calgary clubs that participate in the CRCF have a certain number of representatives on the Board who serve for specified terms. Our Club By-laws set out a ratification process that involves a vote of members present at a specified meeting. The RCC Board of Directors have recommended two individuals to join the CRCF Board and a vote will be held at our June 7th meeting to ratify their appointment. The motion to be considered and passed at this meeting is as follows:
"The Rotary Club of Calgary nominates Mr. Don Dart and Mr. Brent Alexander to the CRCF Board for terms that are governed by the CRCF By-laws."

Syrian Refugees Seeking Employment – Can you help?
By Barbara Young
The Rotary Club of Calgary Syrian Refugee Committee would appreciate it if any of our club members could help the members of one of our families find employment. They are desperate and willing to pursue employment in any area, not just in their area of expertise.
Sami Issak – High School student (completing grade 10) – experienced as a bakery helper (in Calgary) and waiter (in Syria).
Randa Saomi – English teacher in Syria for 30 years – fluent in Arabic and English
Souhil Issak – Civil Engineer – Sixteen years employed in land development focused on construction sites. More recently ran a business that provided services related to waterproofing/epoxy flooring/ injection/protective coatings.

Calling All Stampede Barbecue Event Volunteers
By Craig Henderson
We need hundreds of volunteers to cater two of the largest parties in the city, and you can register yourself, as well as your friends and family, to volunteer at the Stampede Roundup and/or the Oxford Stomp by following the registration links below.
As we are continuing our efforts build a database of reliable volunteers, we really need a valid email address and phone number for each volunteer you sign up.
