On March 15, a group of Syrian Women in Calgary we will be holding a film screening, "Damascus with Love," and a silent auction at the Globe Cinema in Calgary.  All proceeds raised will go to Shelter Box - Syrian Relief. The Rotary Club of Calgary is sponsoring our event and has donated a significantly generous amount for our cause.  The Every Woman Foundation is a special contributor as well.

We hope that Calgarians will partake in this cause. The movie features beautiful imagery from Syria and the silent auction displays gorgeous items all the way from Damascus.  Other local businesses have donated items for our event as well.

Attending the screening will not only take Calgarians on a journey into the charm of the Middle East, but will also help make a difference for suffering Syrians in our humanity.

"Damascus with Love" is a Syrian film that takes its viewers into the heart of Damascus and captures the most stunning imagery of Syria, one that is seldom portrayed in today's media.  The movie was made pre-revolution, and it takes up the social, and not the political, issues of  Syrian society.  It sheds light on the minority Christian and Jewish sects within Syria, and depicts their rootedness to their homeland, as well as the rich colours they bring into the Syrian canvas.
The imagery in the movie is simply breathtaking.

Ghada Alatrash will also be holding her poetry show at the Ranchmen's Club in Calgary on May 2nd. This will be an intimate evening of LIVE music and poetry. We will have a LIVE pianist, a violinist and a guitarist and everyone is invited to indulge in the beautiful world of poetry and music with a glass of wine or two.
