On 30th May, 2016, some of Calgary’s most talented music students competed for a new scholarship program at Mount Royal University Conservatory. In partnership with Rotary Club of Calgary, this scholarship program is for young instrumentalists and singers who demonstrate financial need and are presently living and/or studying in Calgary.

The panel adjudicating this exciting event with some of Calgary’s most outstanding musical talent included the new CEO of the Calgary Philharmonic, Paul Dornian, Calgary Civic Symphony Conductor Rolf Bertsch, and head of Academy and Choral Programs William van der Sloot, Artistic Co-Director of Morningside Music Bridge & String Faculty Member Mount Royal Conservatory John Kadz.

Awarded by age-groups, the scholarships can be used towards private lessons at the MRU Conservatory or towards tuition for the Academy Program for Gifted Youth or the Advanced Performance Program at MRU Conservatory. Future summer scholarships are to be given to students who are already enrolled in one of these gifted programs and who have been accepted to an international summer music program outside Calgary. The future post-secondary scholarship is for one of the aforementioned students who has been accepted to a major music school such as Juilliard, New England Conservatory, Hans Eisler School (Berling), Eastman School of Music, etc.
