Tracy Cooper-Lavery - Gold Coast Art Gallery

Tracy Cooper-Lavery is the Gold Coast City Gallery new Director.

She comes with rich experience running regional galleries and it’s not the first time she’s cruised the hallways of our City Gallery. 24 years ago she started her career here – as the Gallery’s Curator.

She comes to the role straight from Rockhampton Regional Gallery where she was Gallery Director for more than four years. While there she tripled audiences and increased sponsorship. Tracy has also had a stint as Senior Curator at Bendigo Art Gallery, considered one of the shining examples of regional galleries in Australia.

“In some ways it feels a bit surreal to be coming back to the Gold Coast; like I’ve come full-circle,” Tracy told More Gold Coast.

“My love affair with the Gold Coast started back when I was about four years old.”

“In the early 70s my parents bought a small motel about three blocks from Cavill Ave and one block from the beach. It felt very glamorous to be living on the Gold Coast then – not much has changed in that respect. Even though I moved around a lot as a kid and adult – the Gold Coast has been the closest thing to home. It’s great to be back!”
