Rotary 101 -- advocacy, service, and leadership -- Covington Rotary's measurable impact

October is Rotary's Vocational Service Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, AND Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Covington Rotary Club is fortunate to be comprised of community leaders active in many vocations.  Three of our members will speak in their professional capacities; this is a great opportunity to share what Rotary does with potential members as we highlight the 4th Avenue of Rotary Service.

Janie Boyer, herself a breast cancer survivor, is the Team Coordinator for the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in New Orleans.  She will bring us up-to-date on the many opportunities for service we have to advance the research for a cure for cancer, to support cancer patients, and generally advocate for greater awareness around this topic.

Kim Kirby, also a member of our club, is the Executive Director of Safe Harbor Northshore, and we are very fortunate to have her with us at all in the month of October given her many obligations.  Kim will reinforce the importance of continued advocacy on behalf of the families affected by domestic violence and the opportunities we have to be of service here in our community.  We will also present our club's donation to Safe Harbor, this year in the form of support to the Real Men of St. Tammany campaigns of 2 fellow Rotarians, John Case of the Slidell Northshore Club, and Dan Milham, a Mandeville resident and member of the Rotary Club of Metairie.

Lauren Coudrain, our club president, will also inform the club of the important role of Rotary, Rotarians, and specifically the Covington Rotary Club, in sharing our knowledge as community leaders with the next generation.  She will address the activities planned this year that tie in directly with our commitment as Rotarians and as a club to Vocational Service.
