Human Trafficking is prevalent in our country, state, and unfortunately our cities. This is no longer something that just happens overseas. By joining us for this race you are helping us raise awareness so that our friends and family will not end up in this slavery and to raise funds to support the organizations who take care of the victims of Human Trafficking. |

***DATE CHANGE*** "Blue Team" led by Kirk Michel and Sam Fauntleroy will spearhead this effort to staff the beer booth to raise funds at the first Upward Community Services "Wing Cook Off" on the roof of the St. Tammany Justice Center Parking Garage. All members are encouraged to sign up and bring along a potential member to roll of his or her sleeves and do some Service Above Self in one of our favorite ways -- pouring beer and rattling the tip jar! We are hoping that this partnership with Upward Community Services will strengthen our ties within our community and help this organization get this event off to a great first year. Volunteers must be at least 18 to help, but families should plan to come spend the day, spend some money, and try all of the recipes from the competing teams. |

Miracle League Northshore
Dec. 01, 2015
WDSU anchor and reporter Heath Allen is also a member of the Steering Committee of Miracle League Northshore. He will speak to us about the major initiative to establish a Miracle League field at Coquille like the one built on "the fly" in New Orleans in close coordination with Children's Hospital. The Miracle Field is a specially constructed baseball field that uses a cushioned, synthetic turf to accommodate wheelchairs and other walking assistance devices that, along with appropriate support facilities, is designed specifically for use by children with disabilities. Heath Allen is a key member of the team working to create a field for the children and families of St. Tammany Parish. See plans for the Miracle League Northshore park here Covington Rotary's 2nd Annual Quack-A-Falaya has designated Miracle League as its major beneficiary; we are also studying the possibility of applying for a Global Grant through Rotary International in conjunction with clubs within D6840 and around the world in the amount of $300,000. That amount would allow us to name the field, "Covington Rotary Miracle League Field" and have an important visible reminder of the good work that we do in our community.

Fellowship and Chirstmas Spirit
Dec. 15, 2015
Every year, we celebrate the holidays by coming together for our major project, Feeding the Needy. A lot of work is done behind the scenes prior to the work days and we will bring everyone up to speed at the December 15 meeting. We will also use this meeting as an opportunity for fellowship, one of the major reasons for joining Rotary. We ask each member to bring a $15 wrapped gift. Put your name on the gift and place it in the basket when you arrive. Each person will select one gift and tell a story. The giver of the gift is the next to choose...and so on until the basket is empty and everyone has a chance to speak. If you don't remember to bring a gift, we will have some for you to purchase and share or you can buy a gift certificate from The Chimes. We hope everyone will come. Bring a friend, a potential new member, or a family member. Our Exchange Student, Van, will also be there (as soon as he finished his morning exams) and we hope everyone will bring a personal gift for him, too, to show him our cultural tradition of giving this time of year. We are his hosts and this is a cultural experience for him. |

Louisiana Project Coordinator/Outdoor Recreation Planner National Park Service/RTCA
Jan. 05, 2016
Stacye is currently working with the City of Covington and several other local agencies on the Paddle Trails Project, bringing more attention to Louisiana Waterways, including the Bogue Falaya. As we move into the final push of Polio Plus as a global organization, Rotary will begin to emphasize more of our areas of focus. Clean Water is one of them. Covington Rotary, through Quack-A-Falaya and other initiatives, plans to be one of the clubs on the forefront of these initiatives. We are the City of Three Rivers and live in an area that depends on water for trade, for healthy living, business, and recreation. |

@ The Chimes
Jan. 19, 2016
Some of the clubs in our district have been involved in a project with a school in Honduras. The project is Lunches for Learning and provides food for children at the school. Many children in Honduras must earn food to survive rather than attend school. By helping provide lunch at the school children are able to attend. We will have the privilege of having teachers and a student with us on January 19. It's going to be a great presentation! |
