Welcome New MemberRotary welcomes new member - - Sven Geffken President Carl Schwab and sponsor Piper Hanson made it official, inducting Sven Geffken as Pacifica”s newest Rotarian. As President Carl noted: “Becoming a Rotarian in the truest sense of the word is something that is accomplished only by the member himself, we, as your fellow club members cannot make you a true Rotarian, you must achieve that distinction yourself.” Sven readily accepted the challenge indicating his commitment to the Pacifica community and to Rotary, looking forward to participating in Rotary’s many exciting projects. To make the induction official sponsor Piper presented Sven his Rotary badge. Sven was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California. After graduating with his BA degree in Finance from San Francisco State University in 2013 he decided to move back to the coast and found himself in Pacifica. It is not only the perfect place to enjoy is hobbies including mountain biking, hiking, surfing and running, but it’s also a wonderful place to grow his financial advising practice with Edward Jones. Sven was raised to participate and give back to the community and he looks forward to getting more involved with Rotary and giving back to the wonderful place he calls home. Welcome to Pacifica Rotary, Sven! |

Rotary announces new Veteran’s Memorial at Rotary Plaza As Veteran’s Day approaches the Rotary Club of Pacifica has established a Veteran’s Memorial at Rotary Plaza. Now you can memorialize loved ones who have served in the military, recognize those who are currently serving our country, or honor your own military service with names on a brick at the Veteran’s Memorial at Rotary Plaza. Rotary Plaza, located at the Pacifica Center for the Arts, 1220 Linda Mar Boulevard, was developed by the Rotary Club of Pacifica as a gift to the community as part of Rotary’s centennial celebration in 2010. Pacificans have been enjoying it ever since. Ordering a Vet’s Memorial brick is simple online: you can go to www.pacificarotaryclub.com, click Vet’s Memorial, complete the application form and pay using Paypal. You can also print the form, complete it and send it to the Rotary Club of Pacifica with your check for $100 made out to PREF and send it to Rotary, PO Box 1051, Pacifica, CA 94044. You can inscribe three lines of 20 characters which will be engraved using laser technology so their strength and durability will create a lasting remembrance of your loved ones. In addition, your tax-deductible contribution will ensure that this beautiful plaza continues to be a special part of the community for years to come. Space is limited, so order your bricks soon. Deadline for ordering the bricks is June 15th or until the spaces are filled. For questions or more information about Vet’s Memorial bricks contact Ginny Jaquith at 650-355-0805. Carmelita Water ProjectWhat if you had the chance to bring clean water to a village in Guatemala? What if you - through your efforts, your donations, your care - what if YOU could save a child's life? The Rotary Club of Pacifica is in the process of making that happen. We are moving rapidly forward as the lead US Club on a project in Carmelita, Guatemala - the gateway to some of the oldest Mayan ruins known to exist - and this community desperately needs clean, sustainable and safe water. We now have a local Host Club, the Rotary Club of Tikal Peten in Guatemala. Patrick and Marilyn Hall in our Club have met him and other club members in Flores, Guatemala. They are very much with us in making this project work. We have started the Global Grant process with Rotary International (GG 1420394) and the paperwork part of the proposal is moving forward to completion and submission. You can learn more by checking out their proposal here! Our Club has pledged $5,000, we have a pledge with funds in hand from a very supportive friend of Pacifica Rotary and a grant application submitted to another local organization with high hopes for their financial support as well. We also have pledges from the Rotary Clubs of Burlingame, S. San Francisco, San Francisco Evening, Daly City, Millbrae, Menlo Park, Woodside-Portola Valley, Half Moon Bay, Redwood City and SF Greater Mission! Want to help? Call us - we will make you a part of this project in any way we possibly can. If that is accepting your donations, that we intend to match with other donor funds and with matching grants - well, that is wonderful! If you want to visit the project? That can be arranged. If you want to communicate with the experts? Start with us and we'll get you connected. You - Today - Can Help Save a Child. |
