International Project-Panama Orhpanage facility supporting disabled children
Jan. 27, 2015
President Sheehan has been working on getting a project going for over a year with her Rotary group here in Reno. It is an international project to help fund the renovation of a building and supply hydrotherapy equipment for an orphanage in Panama specifically geared toward disabled children. Her passion for this project is overwhelming. She visited the site about six months or so ago and will be returning again at the beginning of the year. In her "spare" time Dr. Sheehan has been visiting Rotary clubs all around town, in northern Nevada, and into California trying to bolster support. The project already has over $15,000 pledged toward it, but as we know every little dime counts when trying to tackle a huge project. If the Fallon club was interested and willing to make a pledge of $1,000.00, it would strengthen the proposal going forward to the Rotary International Grants Committee. Dr. Sheehan's goal is to to be able to generate approximately $95,000 between club donations/matches, individual sponsorship, and matching grants from both the District and Rotary International. |

Rotary Global Grant - Uganda Nursing School, Update
Feb. 17, 2015
In 2013 the Rotary Club of Fallon contributed $1,000 to a global grant the Reno Rotary club submitted to support the Uganda Nursing School, Bwindi project. A global grant submitted by the Reno club was approved by The Rotary Foundation and totaled $248,000 including the local and district designated funds. We used the funds to purchase all of the furnishings, equipment, and specialty nursing school supplies and In May of last year I traveled with a vocational training team composed of three advance practice nurse educators to Uganda. The VTT worked with the tutors and students at the school and had some amazing experiences. Some remarkable things were accomplished with this project and I want you and your club to know how much I appreciate the support you provided. We are literally changing the health care delivery system in Uganda. |
