The Feb 17 meeting was short on members but large on content. 10 members and 2 guests were treated to an insightful presentation by Tamara Aspell representing the Desert Sun Counselling and Resource Center. With offices in Oliver and Osoyoos, Desert Sun provides services and outreach programs to women in the community suffering from abuse, with a short-term safe shelter, counselling to women, children, juveniles and men. Funded primarily by various government agencies, Tamara pointed out the limited hours they have to work with clients but still manage to provide an incredibly valuable community service. Sarah talked about her great weekend in Vancouver with Marieze and now heads off this weekend with Avry to Revelstoke with all the district exchange students. Cheryle and Jim are on a junket to Seattle to take in the president-elect training. Have fun! Doug Mathews somehow won the jackpot - start again next week! And Bill Lott announced his retirement ... at last and soon- well done!
