Call to OrderPresident Sharon called the meeting to order and led us in the flag salute.

Invocation:  Rick provided the invocation.

Visiting Rotarians:  Nancy Jordan (B’ham club), Bill Kirby (Carson City) and ADG, Bill Gorman.  It’s good to have you all here!

Guests:  Bill’s guests were Michael Cox (Pueblo Co) and Jennifer Fix (Peace Health.)  Sue Richardson was Ken’s guest today.  Bill Gorman brought along Yohaly Camacho and Kimberly Cruz from Youth Engagement Services.  Welcome ALL!

Returning Rotarians:  Jim S. returned from Maui and Rick returned from 30 warm days in AZ.
Birthdays and Anniversaries: Greg’s birthday is Feb. 19th.  Happy Birthday!

Announcements:  Bill Gorman had guests (Yohaly and Kimberly) from the Youth Engagement Services armed with raffle tickets to help with the volunteer work in Honduras.  (The raffle will be on Feb. 21st.  )  Sharon will be vacationing next week and Dale will be at the helm.  There will NOT be a lunch meeting on the 25th, but there will be a wine-tasting fellowship at the New Artifacts Café in the Light Catcher museum.  (202 Grand Ave.)  See Tim’s email as well and give him a headcount.  Friends and family encouraged to attend!  Due to Sharon’s vacation, the Feb. Board meeting has been cancelled.  Any urgent business can be conducted by email.  A sign-up sheet was circulated for the Feb. 27thHands On” project.  See Website for more details. Dale discussed the Career Fair which will be at BTC on March 31st.  (He will not be there on that date, but Eric is his stand-in, go-to guy.)  He also said the printing has been donated by Copy Source, so a big Thank You to them!  Tim received a voice mail denying us a cement truck for the Duck Race, but Deb is going to talk with a man named Larry and we will get the ducks down the street.  (You must come to meetings if you don’t understand this last sentence!)

Happy Bucks:  Bill was $20 happy about his A1C being 6.9 and also happy to have his 2 guests and all the “kids” today.  Dale wrote a check (IOU?) for his 51st birthday and his daughter’s “uneventful” trip to Vancouver, by herself.  She stayed at the Fairmont, which makes her first road trip a bit more luxurious than some I remember from my misspent youth!  (Anyone else remember sleeping on couches and in cars?)  Anywho…Nancy was happy to do a make-up and was thankful we are “giving up the room” on the 25thBill G. was happy to support the Youth Engagement Services.  Tim was also happy for the “Yuts” that were here, today.  Deb gave sad bucks as she is missing Julie.  Apparently, Julie is the “force” behind their daily walks.  Rollo was sad that Linda was not here to take the heat for Donkey Basketball.  Jim S was happy and sad.  Sad because they had to put down a pet, but happy they got a rescue dog with lots of baggage.  Ken was $1 happy to have Jim back from Maui and $9 happy to have Sue with him today.  Pati was $5 happy for all the guests.  Jake was happy that Rotoract is alive.  Rick was happy for a great time in AZ and also happy for today’s guests and Eric as new member.  Jill was happy for the chocolate sales to benefit the “Mock Trial” club.

Finemaster:  Rollo did a great job of standing in for the ill, Greg.  He began by fining Jill for making Greg sick.  He also put in a few IOUs for Rocky for missing last week and for Linda missing out on her new celebrity.  (TV appearance regarding Donkey B-Ball.)  A $1 fine for anyone not wearing a pin.  And if you bought your Valentine’s gift at BevMo! there was a fine.  Tim was fined for not sitting with Pati and Sharon initially held “Last in” honors until Jill showed up and was fined.  Rick got to pay $3 as a “welcome back” from sunny AZ.  Jim S. was fined $2 for returning from Maui.  Ken was fined for wearing shorts on a rainy day. Thanks Rollo for filling in.

Banners:  Stan was unable to do banners today L

Program:  Jill introduced 2 students from Windward High School.  Jeremy Knapp and Andrew Hanson are the President and Treasurer (respectively) of the “Mock Trial” club.  They did an excellent job of describing Windward’s mission and what led them to be founders of this club.  Mock Trial prepares students for a career in the legal profession and helps others to better understand the legal system.  This is the 3rd year Windward has been able to participate in Mock Trials and it appears they get better every year.  They not only participate in District and (hopefully, State) competitions, they also participate in Whatcom County Teen Court.  Their goal with Teen Court is to restore offenders back to the community and it has been shown to reduce the recidivism rate of juveniles.  Competitions can cost a great deal of money, with the State competition costing around $5,000.  (This includes fees, transportation, food, etc.)  As a fundraiser, the club sells “The World’s Best Chocolate” and Andrew and Jeremy were kind enough to give us each a bar.  To show the club’s gratitude for this interesting presentation, we volunteered the services of Dan Parsons, should they need expert advice or counsel.  The State competition will be held in March in Olympia, so let’s support this club!

Drawing:  The door prize was a set of 3 pretty bowls and Bill’s guest, Jennifer won them.  She also had the winning ticket, but drew a 10 of hearts and did not collect the $408.50 jackpot.  However, she did walk away with a “Freezer” Beer glass. The pot grows!
