Community Service Ashley's Way

The Wine Fund Raiser .  Friday 11 November is the closing date for orders which can then be collected from Erwin's business premises in Canningvale on Saturday 18 November 2017. Ashley made special mention of a donation made by Kieran English in lieu of a wine purchase and encouraged anyone else who wouldn't be buying, to also consider a donation.

Christmas Giving For The Needy

It's that time of year again when we set up our Christmas tree at Riverton Leisureplex for donations-in-kind from the public and members and friends are also encouraged to donate either in cash or in kind. After next Monday please contact Ashley to organise delivery as it won't be convenient to do so at future meetings. The donated cash and goods from all sources will be pooled and passed to Manna Inc to distribute. Starting 21 years ago feeding a few homeless people in a park, Manna has become one of the largest providers of meals for disadvantaged people in Perth.

Microscopes For Schools. The Club is donating microscopes to Wilson Primary School and Castlereagh School for students with special needs. These are sourced from the Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay but will be rebadged with our Club logo.

Read Write Now. To assist the volunteers and students the Club has budgeted to provide an Apple Ipad to the programme. The purchase is on hold until we hear from the programme representative, Marcia Berkley.

The Rotary Foundation and Our Cluster-Stuart Diggins Reports

Stuart reminded us about the film fund raiser to "End Polio Now".  It's worth noting that since 1988, we’ve seen a worldwide reduction in polio cases of 99.9%. Last year we only saw wild polio cases in three countries being Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria. So we are very close to eradicating polio altogether and  the proceeds of the film night will allow an estimated 4,500 children to be vaccinated.

In President Rob's absence, on Sunday 4 November 2017 Stuart attended the Club's quarterly cluster meeting  with the Presidents of Cockburn, Fremantle and Rossmoyne. These meetings provide the opportunity to exchange ideas and learn what other Clubs are doing and on this occasion the focus was on membership efforts and Earbus. It was short, sharp (finishing one minute under the hour allowed) and very informative.
