From Left : President Rob Webster with Vice President Interact Club of Willetton (IC Of W), Duli Jayalath and President Mihan De Silva who together presented their cheque for $1,000 to ROMAC Deputy Chair, PDG Brian Eddy.

After the presentation Mihan and Duli spoke about the work of their Club during 2018; how thankful they are for all the support they have received; and that their goals and values have been inspired by the words of  American historian, playwright and social activist, Howard Zinn, who said that:

"Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can change the world."

They said how pleased their members were to be joining with the Rotary Club to make a donation to ROMAC and how grateful that their small act, multiplied by the members of Rotary Club of Willetton, has the potential to change the life of a child in desperate need of medical attention, for the better. President Mihan went on to say that:

In 2018 the Club aimed to foster a fresh leadership and service culture within the club. Bringing to the table both a passion for coordinating fundraising projects and better connecting with the community. They organised a record eight (8) fundraisers with three (3) in the first two months of charter including a Free Dress Day and Easter Fund raiser, Mother’s Day and Ice Cream Stalls.

The Club also dedicated a significant proportion of its efforts to generating a stronger link with the community: In fact, the first opportunity was through the Rotary Fair which ignited their passion to become more closely involved with those they were helping. Throughout the year they then participated in a first-ever self-organised tree planting project; and the Executive Team also spent a night volunteering in the homeless shelter, serving food to homeless individuals and listening to their stories, an experience that truly moved them and deepened their passion for Interact and service.

Before passing on to Duli, Mihan made a special mention about the Interact Video Awards, which is an international competition between Interact Clubs around the world that runs annually, and for the first year ever, the Interact Club of Willetton will be participating. The club's publicity team, has already submitted the Club video to Rotary International and the results will be released in early 2019 and they would greatly appreciate it if everyone would show their support by watching the Club video online. He thanked everyone so much, and said it had been an absolute pleasure and honour to work beside the Rotary Club of Willetton.

Vice President Duli then thanked the Club immensely for their valuable ongoing support through the years and especially for fostering leadership, initiative and a compassion for society in the younger generation, to inspire IC Of W to achieve so much over the years.

In particular she wanted to thank Simon Cubitt who has always been available and dedicated his time to assist the Club saying the support is greatly appreciated within the club.
