APPLECROSS ROTARY JACARANDA FESTIVAL 2020

The video was produced by Kate Zappa in 2016 and is still very relevant for promoting the festival in 2020.

The count down continues with ONLY EIGHT (8) more sleeps before the 2020 APPLECROSS ROTARY JACARANDA FESTIVAL.

At our breakfast meeting on Tuesday Kenn Williams and Chris Whelan will update the club on the status of the Jacaranda Festival organisation, so if you are unable to make the meeting in person please consider joining us via ZOOM.

There will also be a briefing for ALL volunteers on Tuesday (24th November)  from 5pm to 6pm at the Heathcote Precinct, Applecross (building on the other side of public road near the clocktower).  The agenda will cover:

  1. COVID related safety items.
  2. General duty of care for all volunteers.
  3. Logistics on the event day.
  4. Overall plan for the day.
Please confirm your attendance with Chris Whelan.

SHELTERBOX

The Rotary in WA Shelterbox team, represented by ambassador Rod Style, will once again be at the Jacaranda Festival.

The team won the Shelterbox Volunteer Team of the year award in 2019.

I heard a whisper that Rod may be joining us at our meeting this Tuesday so if you want to find out more about Shelterbox talk to Rod or click here.

ROTARY SUPPORTING My Home PROJECT

Following a recent presentation to the club about the Rotary WA-Homeless Hub, one of the projects identified that Rotarians in WA have agreed to support is 'My Home' Australasia Limited to provide low cost housing for people experiencing homelessness in WA.  The initial target is women over 55 (underrepresented in homelessness statistics) who are single and many of whom have performed home duties/caring roles and are under financial stress arising from unemployment and/or inadequate superannuation.  Also victims of family or domestic violence.

Club Director Andrew Bower recently attended a club liaison officer meeting and "was very inspired by the My Home project".  Andrew will present a recommendation to the club on what Applecross Rotary could financially commit to the project.

Andrew has provided the following information about the project.
  1. Alliance presentation on Homelessness
  2. My Home Flyer
Guest speaker: Maria Moffitt - Partnership Manager Destiny Rescue

At this week's breakfast meeting we were joined by Jackie Knight and Maria Moffitt from Destiny Rescue Australia.  Jackie is a volunteer and Maria is the Partnership Manager who gave a very confronting talk on child sex trafficking and what we can do about it through the support of Destiny Rescue Australia.

FOODBANK FOOD DRIVE AT THE Jacaranda Festival
Applecross Rotary is a proud supporter of Foodbank and the Jacaranda Festival gives us an excellent opportunity to 'Run a Food Drive' to help raise awareness of hunger and collect food for people in need.

Through our promotion of the Jacaranda Festival we will be encouraging people to bring along their food donations to our stall number 138.
Message from DG Colin Burns
It is with great pleasure to announce to all Rotarians in District 9465 that the 2021 District Conference, which will be held in conjunction with District 9455 has been locked in for March 5th to 7th and will be held at OPTUS STADIUM. With the difficulties we have all faced in 2020, this Joint District Conference is a massive opportunity to celebrate not just the past 100 years of Rotary…..but the many years ahead. More information and the release of early bird tickets are available at:

Whilst we have an amazing Conference Program being developed and some truly inspirational speakers lined up - we need your support to make this event a big success. Get your tickets early and make sure you pass this opportunity on to friends and family (this year’s Conference has been designed to appeal to all).

The opportunity to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia in 'the world's most beautiful stadium' and enjoying the unique experiences the Stadium has to offer, is definitely an opportunity not to be missed. Make sure you get your tickets asap at the Early Bird rate.

I look forward to seeing you all there.

Regards

R100 Centennial Ball | Puttin on The Ritz - 20's Style | Friday 23 April 2021

The Rotary Club of Perth and the Rotary Club of Melville on behalf District 9455 and District 9465 have joined together to create an event in Western Australia that celebrates the First 100 Years of Service of Rotary in Australia – The Centennial Gala Ball.

The Theme is “Puttin on the Ritz” and we look forward to a large contingent of Rotarians at this event.  As this is a Western Australia wide event, and numbers are limited, we urge you to book your tickets asap via the try booking link below.

It’s a special time in the history of Rotary in Australia and NZ as we celebrate the First 100 years of Service in 2021.

In 1921, four Rotary Clubs were created in Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington and Sydney.  From there, Rotary and Rotaract clubs were created everywhere across Australia and NZ with the Perth Rotary Club being the first club to charter in Western Australia on 15 April 1927.

As Australians, we all share a centenary in 2021 and therefore it is fitting that we should all come together and celebrate the common legacy that we as Rotarians leave behind. Think about the impact we have made in this State and this Country!  Let’s shout out loud and celebrate!

There are limited tickets available for this premier celebration of Rotary in WA.  Therefore, I urge you to get in contact with your fellow club members, organise your table and book online as soon as possible, otherwise I fear you will miss out.

Tickets are available at http://bit.ly/R100Ball
