DG Wayne emigrated from the UK in 1966, but it was nearly 40 years later when he joined Rotary, firstly at Safety Bay, then Rockingham.  He is a Past President of both Clubs.
He was a banker in his past life, and kept himself fit playing basketball.
The theme of his address was “Rotary Connects the World”, and he proceeded to address this using the four goals of RI President Mark Daniel Maloney:
  1. Increase Rotary’s impact in the world – and mark 9 November as UN Day
  2. Expand the reach of Rotary remembering that we need to engage and retain members, and establish new Clubs.
  3. Increase our engagement, make Clubs more family friendly
  4. Increase our adaptability – to make Rotary more attractive to potential members.
DG Wayne said we must work at getting Rotary better known in the community, and we should aim to be as well known as McDonalds, given Rotarians give over $1 billion dollars a year of support to local and international projects.

DG Wayne concluded by saying he had collected a lot of business cards from other District Governors from around the world at his training session in the USA and invited PE Ray to select a card, and then write to the ‘winner’ telling him/her what Applecross Rotary is doing in the community and asking for ideas we can adopt to showcase how Rotary Connects the World.  And the winner was 1130 DG Tony Sharma from the Rotary Club of London Tower Hamlets.
