Delicious Second Helpings!

Numbers are still being crunched so we don't have a final bottom line yet, but we do know, people were having a great time meeting and greeting; the chef tastings by The Ham Stand were scrumptious and creative; our restaurant raffle excelled; Pacific Auction Company brought a variety of art, jewelry, historical and sports memorabilia, travel experiences and more for the auctions; and Peace Lutheran Fellowship Center was a perfect venue for Hungry Games II.

Our Fund A Need campaign to support our broad range of Youth Projects stands at $7,750 and it is still open to anyone who wants to contribute.  Just raise your hand on Thursday or send a message to Co-Presidents Chris and Carolyn or treasurer Tom Ryan.  We would love to get to an even $8,000 or more!  Many, many thanks to the generosity of those who have donated.  Our Fund A Need donations ranged from $2,500 by Chris and Carolyn to $100 by a number of participants, including several $1,000 and $500 donations.

What a treat to have members of our new Interact Club helping setup, direct traffic, tear down and generally anything they were asked to do and to have a NEO student and a former RYLA student sharing their experiences.  A great reminder about why we put so much time and energy into Hungry Games II!

And the winners are:

  • Iron Chef winner Kevin Souces
Choosing the winning chef among the three outstanding chefs at the Ham Stand was a tough decision for all who enjoyed their tastings.  Jason Jillson cooked up Crispy Smoked Pork Belly, Roasted Cream Corn, Crispy Shallot, and Basil Salad, Smoked Paprika Oil, winning chef Kevin Souces dished up a tasty Curried Beef Arancini with Cucumber, and Rose Fisher served a delicious Roasted Winter Squash Salad with Chanterelle Crema and Walnuts.

  • Restaurant Raffle winner Linda Emanuel
Linda was thrilled to take home the package $1,200 in favorite local restaurant certificates.

  • Nicole Dillard collected an exciting selection of items to create three fabulous beautiful baskets plus a Kathryn Wronski painting which raised $640 from basket raffle sales.  Gayle Denney walked out with one -- including one of Giudita Soldavini's paintings.
Big thank yous beyond our Club go to:
  • Pacific Auction Company with maestro auctioneer Steve Godfrey and his proficient auction team who ran every aspect of our auctions and Fund A Need campaign.

  • The Ham Stand owners - Jason who is handing over the reins now to Rose and Kevin for planning, cooking, competing and setting the feasting stage for us.  Clearly he is transferring the business to excellent chefs!

  • Nevada City Winery for generously volunteering to pour their wines that complemented the tastings!  Several of our Hungry Games team members had a fun day tasting with Carla Burke and staff to choose the perfect wines for the event.

  • Our tasty dessert vendors:
    • Dr Sarah's mouth watering home baked Pies benefiting Kare Crisis Nursery
    • Uncle Rudy's Royal Truffles from The Truffle Shop and
    • Coco's Lazy Dog Ice Cream, now owned by Casa Las Katarinas

  • Peace Lutheran Church
The venue was perfect for our Hungry Games event with easy traffic flow around the kitchen where our chefs setup from the main Fellowship Center to our Silent Auction displays.

  • Volunteers
    • Carol and Ed Scofield, fellow Grass Valley South Rotarians, who greeted guests at check in
    • Sandy Stickel and Gloria  handed out voting tickets for our chef competition
    • Charmaine Dudevoir was available to assist in the kitchen
