First a correction: Katrina Flinn reminds us the Cup Sweep was not fundraising, every single dollar received was distributed  to members as prizes for those with winning horses. (In accordance with VCGLR rules)

Fortunately The Shadow is around to keep an eye on all the Club's goings-on.

International Men’s Day has been celebrated on November 19 since 1999, a day for celebrating the accomplishments of boys and men whilst shedding light on the issues they face.

International Men’s Day encourages men to teach the boys in their lives the values, character and responsibilities of being a man.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must become the change we seek.”  It is only when we all, both men and women, lead by example that we will create a fair and safe society which allows everyone the opportunity to prosper.

Coincidentally, World Toilet Day was founded on the same date in 2001 by Singaporean businessman and philanthropist Jack Sim. World Toilet Day is an official United Nations observance which brings attention to the billions of people throughout the world living without modern sanitation.

The Shadow enjoys reading about our club’s past events, especially this week about his old friend David Pisterman

He knows some secrets must be kept, but how did this photo, of President David Pisterman hamming it up with the late Vic Burns, fail to be included in the article?

A member who claimed his car to be ecologically friendly was sadly found out, when he claimed it is a Hybrid.

“It burns petrol and rubber, so it must be a hybrid.”

Good try, Petrol-Head! We know  who you are! (and where you live)

In the same vein:

A headline from ABC Brisbane: “A man has crashed his car into a cafe after doing a burnout while transporting teens to a formal.”

On the flip side, there’s this fun fact from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. “Did you know that people with philosophy qualifications are more than twice as likely to ride a bike to work?” - strewth@theaustralian.com.au

The Networker

The Shadow Knows how much work goes into the production of the District 9800 Bulletin, “The Networker” every week.

District Governor Philip Archer (left) surely had his head screwed on correctly when he asked Rowan McClean, D9800 Club Service Chair, (right) to lead the team. The team produce an informative and entertaining newsletter every week, which we commend to you.

If you don’t already receive “The Networker”, you can subscribe here:

What a great Music Critic Chris Hanson has turned out to be! His report on “Rotary in Harmony” this week must be making readers lust for more.

However The Shadow was disappointed in the poor representation of Scottish music in the show, so he goaded our Scottish Correspondent to include “The Ballad of Johnny Ramensky” in this Bulletin.

This story of a modern Scottish folk hero, led to the composition of a modern folk song. It all sounds a bit Irish, really.
