Yes, The Shadow  knows you have all had a good break, and are now trying desperately to shed a kilogram or two.

All that indulgence has to be paid back somehow.  Are you winning the battle?

We all look forward to welcoming President Charlotte and Peter back to Australia, after their overseas odyssey. Nice photo, BTW, of them with their son Alastair. “He’ll be a big laddie that, when he stops growing”, as the saying goes.

So be sure to make it to Moona Links on 28th January for our first fellowship event, to give them a grand welcome home.  See the invitation under "Events".

Our bulletin this week contains a report on Car parking for the Kooyong Classic Tennis Tournament, once again a Noel Halford tour de force.  Well done, Noel and team.

Katrina Flinn reports on the Cambodia Clean Water Project, and we have an item on the devastating bushfires with links to appeals to help the victims.

Did you know that January is Vocational Service Month? The months slip by, and how easily we forget that vocational service was originally part of Paul Harris’ concept, when he and friends met in rotation at their offices.  The other professionals specifically weren’t lawyers, and this mixture of vocations has always been a feature of Rotary. The Shadow recalls PDG Colin Muir as referring to Vocation as “Rotary’s forgotten avenue of service”. Can you see why?

We also have a link to the Rotary Foundation Annual Report. We sometimes become a bit blasé about the Foundation, and at other times put it last on the fund-raising list. The  Foundation has been described as “The glue that holds Rotary together”.  The Shadow hopes you read and enjoy the report.
