At the last lunch meeting Hawthorn Rotary many members were harshly confronted with the future (and indeed present) when member and President Katrina Flinn gave a brief account of "Social Media".

Bearing in mind the ignorance and delicacy of many of our older members Katrina carefully took us through and explained many of the communication platforms available.    Armed with her mobile phone ("smart phone" now)  as a key prop during her guest speaker address we quickly understood "Siri" , the meaning of "Apps" and  above all became aware of the sheer power and extent by which social media can be productively used.    Some in the audience became bleary eyed as we heard of "Twitter", "U-Tube", "LinkedIn", Pin interest", "Swap Chat", "Skype" , "Meet Up" and of course "Face Book".   The role of each was simply and clearly explained.

Finally Katrina pointed out that the club itself has embraced elements of this communication and information revolution and encouraged members to take advantage of the phone "App" available to members for keeping track of club happenings.  This comes about through  "Club Runner'" facility  to which Hawthorn Rotary subscribes.

Here is the message to get switched on, and remember embrace it and have fun:-

Members who have a smartphone, download the Clubrunner app to access members contact details and Club events (if needed, ask for help!).

-members and friends please follow Rotary Club of Hawthorn pages on social media (Face Book, Instragram, LinkedIn)
