It was a wonderful start to the week when 41 Club Members braved the cold, wind and rain to attend the President’s Drinks Party.  It was a relaxed and friendly afternoon where Members got the time to socialise and enjoy each other’s company. Thank you to everyone who was able to be a part of this Fellowship event. The camaraderie was great to see and the assistance by so many members making sandwiches, serving drinks and food plus cleaning up at the end was much appreciated!!

Kevin Rose our Chairman this week introduced Dr. Alasdair Wood, from the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute, who delivered a most informative and interesting talk about the research and development that is being made at ARMI.

It was fascinating to hear the areas that the Institute is working on particularly the interrelationship between science and medicine. Dr. Wood’s explanation, accompanied by such a detailed presentation, with respect to the ongoing development in the area of regenerative medicine gave Members a much better understanding on how the human body is able to repairs itself.  It was refreshing to hear how ARMI is able to share its knowledge with other entities across the world and be a leader in its field.  The level of integrity and recognition of the very high standards in research, development and safety that are achieved can only assist in garnering the very best researchers to be a part of this world leading Institution.

There was certainly not enough time for the many and varied questions at the end so the Club hopes to be able to accept the Institute’s kind invitation to run a Club meeting at the Institute itself with a tour to see for ourselves the breadth and depth of the valuable work that is being done.

Our lunchtime numbers continue to grow with 31 attendees this week including 5 guests.  Ian Gillies kept everyone on their toes during the Sergeant’s session which along with the raffle helps the Club.  July is often a time when many Members head to the sunshine in some part of the world so it is heartening to see or lunchtime numbers on the increase.  Thanks must go to Jill Weeks for organising such excellent speakers.

Our evening meeting on the 17th July at 7 p.m. continues to gain support from Club Members and members of the public.  23 attendees are registered to meet at the Vision Eye Institute.  I encourage Members to come along to this informal meeting that Noel Halford organises.

Kind regards,
