It was lovely to see over 35 in attendance today at Kooyong.

Today Rashi Kapoor (an accountant) attended as a guest and showed strong interest in the works undertaken by Hawthorn Rotary Club.

Another guest was Assistant Governor East side Mr. Casey Tan, who acknowledged the Hawthorn Rotary clubs’ contribution to the Australia day celebrations. Certificates were presented and signed by Philip Archer, District Governor 2020-21.

The highlight today was formally inducting new member Mr. Vincent Chen. Vincent was introduced to his Mentor Ian Bentley, who will reinforce our Rotary values along Vincent’s journey. Vincent will join the Community Services under director Denbigh Richards, where I am sure he will make a valuable contribution.

Thank-you to both Richard Logan (chairman of the fundraising committee) and Andrew Crockett (club service director) who respectively provided an update on future fund-raising activities for the club and upcoming club events with the immediate event being our Quiz night this Friday night!

We also announced today the 100 years of Rotary coin and stamp memorabilia is being launched on the 13th of March 2021, so please consider purchasing one, as a keepsake.

International Women’s day event will be celebrated on the 9th of March 2021 at Kooyong with zoom telecast from this International Rotary event.

Today our Guest speaker was Fleur Maidment, an environmental scientist who was directly involved in providing clean water for refugee camps in Myanmar. This was an inspirational talk and close to home when Fleur highlighted the works of our club had done in providing a sky hydrant pump that filters up to 10 000 litres of clean water per day.

Please join us at Kooyong next Tuesday, 2nd March 2021 to listen to our guest speaker, Dr Peter Brukner, OAM sports and exercise physician and a researcher.
