Youth Services Director Kevin Rose reported that our nominated student, Tranh Pham of Auburn High School has been selected to attend the National Youth Science Forum.

Noel Halford’s thought was to contact Chances, and Denbigh Richards helped me with the initial interview.

Jane and Henry Drury conducted the most-worthwhile tutoring, probably Jane’s first duty as a Rotarian, even though she has helped the club in boundless endeavours over the years.

Leah Rintoule, Student Wellbeing Coordinator reported:

For a little bit of background Thanh and his mum were both in the Philippines and his father in Vietnam. He has somewhat of an international accent because of this but English is his first language. The fact that he is taking all STEM subjects in VCE (except for English of course) would usually indicate a student that has a single focus but he is a very well rounded. He has previously performed quite well in humanities, art and sport and he does swimming outside of school.

There is an emphasis on the importance of education in his household and it has fuelled his desire to study biochemistry or biomedicine in order to help people.

I would love for him to be able to tap into the obvious passion he has for maths/science.

We look forward to hearing Tranh tell us about his experiences after the NYSF.

The National Youth Science Forum is a competitive summer school program dedicated to exposing year eleven students who are heading into year twelve and are thinking about a career in science, engineering and related disciplines to major scientific institutions and researchers, so that they may make more informed choices for their future endeavours.
