We always knew that Morning Tea on Saturday morning with DG Philip Archer would be fun.

It was also informative, and it was excellently run by the District Communications Team on Zoom.

The meeting was enjoyed by over 150 Rotarians.

After some entertainment to get our toes tapping, DG Philip told us about a new club being formed in the Northern Suburbs, with former Rotary Peace Scholar Linh Tran using a new format to establish a family-orientated club.

He told us of his Zoom visits to the Port Philip and Beachside Clusters, and how the Rotary Foundation End Polio Walk is going global, with several clubs joining the activity.  He also flagged five upcoming “Rotary in Harmony” concerts, featuring music from classical to rock.

Five speakers were given six minutes each: they were all informative.

Rotary International Brand Centre - Pia Demsky told us about the recent updating of the site, and how clubs can get the best from templates, planning advice, logos and other Rotary resources.  https://brandcenter.rotary.org/en-GB

Rotary Safe Families - Dorothy Gilmour  Rotary Safe Families has been created by two Rotarians, Dorothy Gilmour and Mary Barry, who want to make a positive difference to the world by the prevention of family violence in particular violence against women and their children and elder abuse.

Camp Getaway - Ken Maxfield told us how the former youth camp (15 minutes from Bendigo) has received a tremendous makeover in recent years  - thousands of voluntary hours have already gone into redeveloping the site to create self contained units with full disabled facilities and two modern dormitories.
It caters for those of all abilities and mobility, provides a meeting place for support groups, and offers those who need it most a sanctuary away from their daily struggles.   Camp Getaway welcomes bookings from family groups, church groups, clubs, special functions, business meetings, and recreational groups

FORaMeal - Tony Laycock. This project of the Rotary Club of Canterbury, started 5 years ago as an initiative to help provide emergency relief meals for those impacted by natural disasters. Each year over 150,000 meals are provided free of charge to vulnerable individuals and families across the Asia Pacific region in times of disaster.

EMDR - Pam Brown told us about Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing:  a form of psychotherapy developed by Francine Shapiro starting in 1988 in which the person being treated is asked to recall distressing images; the therapist then directs the patient in one type of bilateral stimulation, such as side-to-side eye movements or hand tapping. She told us how the Rotary club of Melbourne is promoting this treatment for victims of bushfires, family violence, and other trauma.

DG Philip ran us through a Quiz, mainly on the topics just covered, and we were all winners!

Finally some questions for the speakers, followed by some entertainment as a play-out to this very worthwhile Rotary session.

Keep your eyes peeled for the next Morning Tea with the DG.
