An Emerging Writers Workshop was conducted via Zoom by Jeanette Leigh, earlier this week.

Jeanette Leigh, author, journalist, copywriter, blogger, and screenwriter, is the new editor of “The Networker”, District 9800’s weekly magazine.

The interactive workshop was designed for contributors to club and district bulletins. Further workshops will be held if there is sufficient demand.

Jeanette described the job of the writer to entertain and engage the reader, and demonstrated how this could be done by citing the first paragraph of some books.  Participants were then given the task of expanding bare statements to  make them attractive to a reader.

The workshop also featured excellent slides, discussion on headlines, editing and reduction of excessive description, writing tips, and how to conduct an interview.

The atmosphere in the workshop was friendly and non-judgemental, and with humorous contributions from our Glenferrie friends Ian Salek and Mark Ellis, it ended all too soon.

We all contributed our thoughts and learned something from the workshop: I recommend it for future budding authors.
