Hello? Anybody there?

Last week we didn’t get a single comment from any of our readers.

  :-(

Not even about President Andrew and Pam Crockett’s excellent notes on International Women’s Day, nor about the amazing WD-40 (who knew?)

But we’ll struggle on.

Vocational Service Chairman Noel Halford continues his excellent series in this Bulletin. Remember Vocational Service? The forgotten Avenue of Service?

But who will be the first member to submit an article relating to their Vocation? (Perhaps we should offer a prize)

Until we receive something, we’ll continue on a medical theme. After all, we have eight club members who work in the health area.

This week, check out “Your Lymph”.

However we recently received a lovely note from our former member Brian Reid, who is about – in two weeks – to do a year as President of the Toorak Men’s Probus Club!

He is chairman  of his owners corporation and on the council of the Genealogical Society of Victoria: when those are all over, Brian’s hoping for a rest!

Meanwhile, in Bonny Scotland:

Scotland’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, surpassed satire this week, by using a speech on International Women’s Day to formally apologise to women accused of witchcraft.

Posthumously making amends to those convicted and executed under Scotland’s Witchcraft Act of 1563, Sturgeon usefully clarified: ‘Those women who met this fate were not “witches”. They were people. And they were overwhelmingly women.

Did you see the lucky winners of the District Conference Early-Bird draw?

Andrew Crockett, Henry and Jane Drury, Virginia Reddaway and David Pisterman.

Lucky, lucky people: we’ll remind them about it at the Conference Club Dinner.

Would the The Four-Way Test suggest they shout a round of drinks?

BTW check out the latest District 9800 Conference Update Flyer under “Forthcoming Events”

Research shows voters favour financial relief after disasters, but we need climate action too - Hannah Melville-Rea, New York University

"The findings indicates natural disasters such as the current floods in southeastern Australia can influence election results."

So let’s get this straight: are we talking about a natural disaster, or a political disaster?

How nice it was to have Dr Leon and Pauline Lewi visit the club. Leon has long been involved in Rotary Fellowships (especially the Rotary Wine Fellowship) and it was he who first introduced me to Rotary in 1967. Here they are (right), reminiscing with Sheila
