Today we look at saving the world, the current status of face masks, the possibility of losing a war against China, the Australian Jazz Museum and International Women’s Day.

Oh yes: and a little bit of Rotary relevance: what is Vocational Service?

Nothing too serious, really.

Saving the world, one bite at a time:

Barrowford Primary School in Lancashire, U.K.  revealed to parents in a recent letter that it had banned all meat options from its lunch menu, citing a desire to “stop climate change”.

Parents have also been asked to refrain from including meat in lunches packed for their children.

“Our children learn about the principles of sustainable development as part of the national curriculum, and are really interested in how they can contribute to better looking after our environment,” headmaster Rachel Tomlinson told “The Sun”.

This recent development comes as the crusade against meat-eating increases in intensity across the United Kingdom.

One UK council — headed up by a coalition of left-leaning parties — has voted to ban the serving of meat at official events, mandating that all meals be vegan only.

Another recent development in the UK was the labelling of meat-eating as “white supremacist” and “misogynist” during a debate at the University of Oxford.

“Your vote [on the motion] tonight expresses your allegiance to or rejection of a white supremacist patriarchal worldview,” Pornography of Meat author Carol Adams told those gathered before claiming that “21st century animal eating requires our complicity in a new colonialism”.

“White supremacists weaponised eating meat, eggs and dairy,” she continued. “Images of milk drinking white men, of platters groaning with meat, and the baiting of liberal men as so-called soy boys are all part of the Neo-Nazi messaging.”

What is Vocational Service?

Vocational Service is one of Rotary’s Avenues of Service.  Vocational Service calls every Rotarian to:

  • Aspire to high ethical standards in their  occupation;
  • Recognize the worthiness of all useful  occupations, and;
  • Contribute their vocational talents to the problems and needs of society.

On his official Club Visit in 2009, District Governor Colin Muir described Vocational Service as “the forgotten Avenue of Service”, as so many Rotary Clubs paid it so little attention.

However in our bulletin this year, we have published several excellent  articles by Noel Halford on the subject: we each bring the background knowledge of our vocations to the Club, to share with others.

In today’s bulletin, for example, I include “The Evolutionary War Between Man And Disease”: a topical medical story that is relevant to us all. From my own vocation, of course.

As Bulletin Editor, I invite you each to submit an article for The Bulletin, relevant to your own vocation (providing date and source, of course)

Can we each share a little of our own vocations with our friends, so Vocational Service is no longer “forgotten”?

“The Babylon Bee” brings us up-to-date on the current status of face masks:

So, after 2 years of mask mandates, it turned out they didn't do anything! Sad!

Don't feel too bad though, because the latest science indicates masks were highly effective at stopping the spread of these ten other things:

1) Ugly Person Sightings: Whew!

2) Celebrity Sightings: Even worse than an ugly person sighting.

3) Procreation: Since we know kissing makes babies and babies destroy the planet, this is great news.

4) Freedom: The dangerous alt-right love of "freedom" must never be allowed to spread.

5) Kids learning how to speak properly: Kids should be seen and not heard.

6) Obnoxious hipster mustaches: It was high time for these to go anyway.

7) The DROPLETS: No! Not the droplets! SAVE US FROM THE DROPLETS!!

8) Mouthed warnings to your kids that you're going to kill them if they don't stop acting like idiots in a public place: We had to do a lot of pinching instead.

9) Talking tough while holding a toothpick in your mouth: Thank God this toxically masculine practice is over.

10) Empathy: Empathy makes us feel for dangerous enemies of the state. No longer!

So now you know!

XYZ NEWS

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says a Chinese military vessel shining a laser at an Australian maritime aircraft was an “act of intimidation” that put Defence Force lives at risk.

Imagine if we lost a war against China.

Our suburbs would become full of Chinese colonists. They would gain ownership of our vital infrastructure and key resources. Our politicians would become their puppets and would likely implement Chinese-style responses to public health emergencies, such as placing restrictions upon movement, mandating the wearing of personal protective gear and the taking of vaccines, and harsh penalties for those who refuse to comply.

The internet would become less free, with those who breach social norms or who express unacceptable views facing ostracism, sackings, loss of access to financial institutions and even jail. The media would become an instrument of government propaganda and it would be impossible to know what was real and what was an illusion.

Losing a war to China would completely change our way of life or something.

The Australian Jazz Museum

We have an apology from Noel McInnes for missing today’s Rotary meeting.

He explains: “We have arranged a Photo shoot with Paul Grabowsky and Herald Sun at the Jazz Museum and they have chosen today as the date.

“The Australian Jazz Museum is one of Australia’s and Melbourne’s best kept secrets. James Morrison AM is our Patron and Paul Grabowsky AO is our Jazz Ambassador.

“The AJM, which was founded in 1996 in Wantirna, is run entirely by volunteers and is a registered charity.

“After 2 years of income setbacks and Covid closures we are re-opening the Museum to the public in March. We are also celebrating our 25th Anniversary.”

Watch this space for more news: Great work, Lorraine and Noel!

Super Twosday

Today is 22/2/22 (or Twosday as some call it)  And it falls on a Tuesday, no less.

That is obviously significant to psychics, astrologers, conspiracy theorists, New Agers, end-dayers, and those of a similar bent.
