Did you notice the advertisement for Glenferrie’s ‘Lift the Lid’ Charity Golf Day in this Bulletin?  It’s on one of our meeting days and quite expensive (Golf Day Experience, $350 pp and Gala Dinner only, $110)

But President Andrew suspects some members might be interested in participating.

The Fixers and Bookworms always have enjoyable/lively discussions, and they encourage all members to join in. So far the Bookworms have usually read and discussed books which have led to successful movies (The French Lieutenant’s Woman, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Rebecca, and Paradise Postponed  - a TV series)

However next up they will get serious and read Douglas Murray’s “The Strange Death of Europe”,  a challenging assessment of the effect immigration (legal and otherwise) and multiculturalism have had on various countries.  Perhaps they will need some help from The Fixers!

Do you think you could add something to the discussion?  You’re among friends: just join in!

Have you checked in with David Pisterman to reserve a room for the District ConferenceHe has 10 members (and partners) booked so far!

And supporters of The Rotary Foundation look forward to meeting old friends at the Foundation Breakfast.

Statement from Rotary International

We received this heartfelt note from Dr John Philip, Chairman, International Rotary Fellowship of Healthcare Professionals:

We are gravely concerned by the escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, and by the imminent prospect of an armed conflict. As the world is still reeling from the global pandemic, a war in Europe, by all accounts, would lead to tragic consequences for the region and would have a devastating impact on civilian populations and on humanity as a whole.

As one of the world's largest humanitarian organizations, we have made peace the cornerstone of our global mission. War is not a good option for resolving disputes among nations and peoples. We join the international community in calling for de-escalation and strongly support urgent and robust diplomatic efforts to resolve this conflict through dialogue.

In the past decade, Rotary clubs in Ukraine, Russia, and nearby countries have transcended national differences and have actively engaged in peace building projects to promote goodwill and to marshal assistance for the victims of war and violence. We will continue these efforts and, with our utmost resolve, we will endeavor to contribute to a peaceful solution to this crisis.

There is a nice article by PDG Dennis Shore  (Rotary Foundation Endowment / Major Gifts Adviser) in the recent “Rotary on the Move”. He states:

We had all probably mentally anticipated that 2022 was going to be more like 2019, with high levels of vaccination enabling us to lead a somewhat “normal” life and then along came Omicron and it seems like ground hog day.

NEWSFLASH: Experts were right at the start about masks, then wrong.

Or maybe wrong, then right.

So wear a mask if you wish.

That's it for this week.

Peace and goodwill to you all.
