November is Rotary Foundation Month: how nice it was to have PDG Murray Verso visit us, and present a couple of recognitions to the Club: Third highest contributor to The Rotary Foundation in D9800 last year, but a total of US$267,000 since 1985 makes us the seventh highest contributor of all time, in D9800.

So we leave November with a reminder that it is Rotary Foundation Month: here’s just one more thing that the Foundation has done:

Fishermen work with cages in the village of Baan Nai Rai, on the coast of Thailand. Thailand was one of 13 countries affected by a series of tsunamis after an earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia on 26 December 2004. More than 5,400 people were killed in Thailand, and thousands were left homeless. The Rotary Foundation established the Solidarity in South Asia fund to assist Rotarians in supporting long-term recovery efforts in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Donors from around the world gave US$6 million to the fund, and more than $500,000 benefited projects in Thailand.

So as we move into December, should we be “woke” and avoid the “C” word?

British Civil Servants have apparently embraced their inner Scrooge, vetoing the use of the word ‘Christmas’ from being used in a coronavirus testing drive aimed at students, arguing that the use of the term runs the risk of offending minorities within the country.

The campaign, which reportedly would have revolved around ministers using the slogan “Don’t take COVID home for Christmas,” is part of a  larger government effort to limit the spread of the Chinese coronavirus after two cases of the Omicron variant were discovered on-shore.

No fear!  We’re all looking forward to the Christmas Party on 16th  December.

Charlotte England reminds us about  this year's Taverners Raffle”

“I do hope that you will be able to participate in this important Christmas Fundraiser.  Half of all the money raised through ticket purchases will go to our Club for our Community Projects and also Lift the Lid on Mental Illness. “

Can you get weaving and sell a few tickets?

Missing in action today, Jane and Henry Drury. But they sent us these lovely photos. Perhaps they have gone for a day at the beach in China.

I WONDER WHERE THE BATHROOMS ARE?

Where do they park their car?

Do they have lifeguards?

How the hell do they get a tan?

Finally, Noel Halford seeks help in distributing Christmas Gift Packs on Friday and Saturday: he needs four cars, each with a driver and a "jockey".  (No, David Rush, not the sort at Flemington)
