Did you predict the election result? Don’t worry if you got it wrong, and take some consolation from Yogi Berra:

“It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future."

Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra was an American Major League Baseball catcher, outfielder, and manager. He played almost his entire 19-year baseball career (1946–1965) for the New York Yankees. Berra was one of only four players to be named the Most Valuable Player of the American League three times and is one of only six managers to lead both American and National League teams to the World Series. As a player, coach, or manager, Berra appeared in 21 World Series. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972.

Berra quit school after the eighth grade. He was known for his malapropisms as well as pithy and paradoxical statements, such as "It ain't over 'til it's over", while speaking to reporters. He once simultaneously denied and confirmed his reputation by stating, "I really didn't say everything I said.

Berra’s comment on predictions is as relevant today as it ever was.

What to wear?

Ukrainian refugee women living in an asylum accommodation in Sweden have been told to dress more modestly so as not to provoke men from other cultures also living in the accommodation.

But of course we all think carefully about how we dress, so as not to offend anyone.

Have you got a new teal-coloured frock for the Club Changeover? Should you wear your Dicky-suit and Rotary Bling? These are all important questions that keep us awake at night.

Covid - is it over yet?

The conspiracy of silence continues among all state and federal governments about this disappointing failure of vaccine efficacy and lack of justification for vaccine mandates and passports.

Due to varying protocols and challenges in the attribution of the cause of death, the number of confirmed deaths may not accurately represent the true number of deaths caused by COVID-19.

In less than five months so far this year, despite world-leading vaccination rates, Covid mortality tolls were 2.6 times higher for Australia than in the 22 months until the end of last year.

If this is vaccine success, what would failure look like?

Look at the cumulative confirmed COVID-19 deaths: in June last year, under 1000 Australians had died with Covid. The figure is now over 8000 deaths.

So despite all the vaccination, it’s not over by a long shot.

The Answer to Climate Change

Lorraine and Noel McInness have taken on the suggestion of having their building contribute to the Country’s and the World’s Green targets for Zero Net Greenhouse Gas emissions by 2050.

They write:

We have prepared an exciting concept plan for adding a windmill to the top of our building as suggested. We have called International tenders for the construction of the project and have received a wide range of proposals as follows:

  • A reputable local construction company has submitted a bid of $2 Million for the completed project.
  • A local energy company has offered to build it for $4 Million providing they can sell the energy produced into the grid for the first 30 years. They obviously think that they are dealing with the Victorian Government,  not private enterprise.
  • Britain has submitted a bid of $1 Million on the condition that Boris can hold Xmas parties and monthly drinks for No. 10 staff there in the event of any future UK lockdowns.
  • The USA has submitted a bid of only $1 Million providing that they can include some of their own secret electronic systems.
  • The French have declined to Bid and said they will sue us for design copyright.
  • The Greens submitted a bid of only $500 with no conditions but they have no idea how much anything costs.
  • China has offered to Pay us $2 Million to build it under the States Belt and Road Contract which then gives them ownership of the building. Their bid also includes the addition of quite a lot of their own secret electronic equipment.
  • Russia has Bid $500,000 on the condition that Putin’s many mistresses can use it as a bolt hole when sanctioned by other countries. Despite this condition we suspect also that Russia has seriously underestimated the site conditions as they did in Ukraine.

The tender assessment has been difficult; however, we believe that the only sensible course of action is to pay the reputable local contractor a fair price without any strings.

This way we can use the income from power sales plus tourism visits, to service the loan. In addition, we shall cover the roof in cash crops and the sides of the building in flowers in vertical gardens.  We shall then seek to reclassify the property as rural: if we can also avoid Land tax, the Windmill should more than pay for itself in less than 10 years.

That’e great news, Lorraine and Noel. Thanks to your selfless efforts, the world will breathe easier.

Vocational Service Note

Vocational Service Chairman Noel Halford sends us a note from Epworth Rehabilitation, promoting a leaflet from the Heart Foundation.

Noel, we raise our collective hats to you, and wish you a continued recovery.  For something vocational this week, we had prepared something on Alternative Medicine, but Noel’s “real thing” takes priority.

Newsflash

Sadly, Vincent Chen advises us that the tour to the Disaster Aid Centre and the Australian Garden has had to be cancelled.

Perhaps we are still hungover from all that Covid.

Vincent assures us that a refund in Trybooking has been arranged and you should receive an email confirming this.
