This was a busy meeting where we focused on the great work being done by others in our community and in the world. Richard Pitt brought new members up to date with the orphanage that he and his wife have supported since the devastating tsunami of 2004 in Sri Lanka and which was rebuilt through his leadership and the efforts of our Club and other Rotary clubs and organisations that came on board. Then we presented Community Caring Awards to two valiant local organisations and their leading spirits - Leisa Liddelow from The Dish and Myf Webster from Fusion, Sydney North. Together they make available hot meals most nights for about 40 hungry and homeless of the Hornsby area as well as groceries and other kinds of life support to those in need.

We were also fortunate to have Michelle Lorschy (daughter of Peter Lorschy) join us to provide an update on the wonderful work undertaken by Gemma Sisia at the School of St Jude - click on "Read More" to read on.

Contd:
Our guest speaker was Michelle Lorschy, Peter Lorschy’s daughter, who gave us a very insightful account of her experiences during a 3 month stay at the School of St Jude in Arusha, Tanzania. It was very interesting to understand through Michelle’s talk the enormous impact that the school has on the local economy and on the families lucky enough to have a child win a place at the school. I was struck too by the impact that members of our Club have in their own families and communities, seeing Peter’s daughter carrying on a family tradition of support of others, and Greg Starr and John Cameron supporting The Dish through St John’s Uniting Church where they are active members, and listening to Radha’s appeal for donations for the work of the Rotary Club in Mysore, at the front line of that country’s struggle with the pandemic.

Sometimes, as members, we can become tired by the many opportunities the Club gives us to serve others but an overview, such as we had last Wednesday of the overall impact of even one Rotary club like ours, and the way it changes lives for the better or rescues them from the worst, you get inspired to go on.
