"GREENING HORNSBY’

Our Club is helping Hornsby Council achieve its goal of planting 80,000 trees in the Shire by connecting Hornsby schools with the Community Nursery at Pennant Hills. Yesterday I delivered three very healthy bottle brushes from the local area to Berowra Public School. The two environmental leaders from the school proudly took responsibility for the trees and also the ‘magic dust’ that the Nursery staff had given me to put in the carefully dug holes for each tree.

The school’s General Assistant showed the boys how to handle a spade to get the holes dug. The Nursery staff are keen to connect with every school and to do this, six members of the Community Committee are each mentoring 8 or more schools: Peter Kirkwood, Janet Grundy, John Julius, Jo Moffatt, Jo Karaolis, Rob Hamilton and Donna Greenfield. In the afternoon, Peter and I met with the Assistant Principal at Waitara Public School to discuss the potential for ‘greening’ their school in the wake of their extensive new building programme just completed. 2021 will see continuing growth in the number of schools participating in the greening project if our Club can keep up the momentum already started.
