Steve Brusso from Evan’s Chemetics shared with us the remarkable commodities produced locally and shipped around the world. Who ever thought the fragrance emanating from the 200+ year old business would find their way outside of Waterloo. What began as a Woolen Mill in the 1800s became a booming business where cold perms were once made. When the woolen mill closed Dr. Evan began his cold perm manufacturing at the current location now known as Evan’s Chemetics because it as close to the water.

Over the years Evan’s has changed ownership, united with Zoto’s and expanded its production of a variety of chemical products. Currently owned by Bruno Balch based in Germany, Evan’s currently provides polymers and plastics used to make Corian Countertops. Anti-oxidants used in automobile paints is sold to DuPont and Dow. Evans is the only company that still makes a chemical used to make motion pictures.
 
There are currently 59 employees at Evan’s with Corporate Office in New Jersey.
A major cleanup has been undertaken to clean up the canal and former landfill. Clean-up is scheduled to be completed this year.
