Going strong after 3 years, the Literacy Committee's Red Bookshelf project, to distribute free books at cites around the area, is going strong. With the constant support of many groups and individuals that do drives and monitor bookshelf stocking, over 165,000 free books have been distributed.
This is a picture of Kaitlyn. She was raised with books in her household and developed a love of books and reading and it upset her to know that other children might not have access to books to keep and have as their own. Kaitlyn asked her classmates to donate used books that they were “too old for” so other kids could enjoy them. She also asked her friends who attended her birthday party to bring used children’s books if they were able to. Through Kaitlyn’s hard work she was able to collect over 900 children’s books for donation for the Red Bookshelf Project.
