The Corning Rotary Club has honored community member Jim Flaws as the Club’s newest Paul Harris Fellow.

Flaws, who recently retired as Corning Incorporated’s chief financial officer after a distinguished 42-year career at the Fortune 500 company, was recognized at the Club’s December 3rd meeting for his role in leading many local community organizations over the past four decades.

Until recently Flaws served as the chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Corning Museum of Glass. His vision was instrumental in this year’s expansion of the Museum’s acclaimed modern wing. Flaws has also served on the board of directors for the Corning Foundation, and served on the board of the United Way of the Southern Tier for 17 years in various roles including chairman and treasurer. Earlier in his career, Flaws led the effort to bring quality daycare services to Corning as the first treasurer of the Corning Children’s Center.

In his professional career, Flaws has posted numerous impressive achievements including leading the spinoff of Corning Incorporated’s healthcare business in 1996, helping to lead the company’s recovery following the
telecommunications downturn in 2002, and leading the acquisition of Samsung Corning Precision Materials in 2013. Flaws was also named One of America’s Best CFOs on three separate occasions by Institutional Investor magazine.

The Corning Rotary Club presents the Paul Harris award to outstanding Club and community members in recognition of activities that exemplify Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self”.
