The Corning Rotary Club recently honored member Brian Klotz as the Club’s newest Paul Harris Fellow.

Klotz, a Rotarian since 2006, has worked for five years at Corning Incorporated, where he currently holds a position as IT Field Services Supervisor. Prior to beginning his career at Corning, Brian held other information technology roles and also served as a Senior District Executive at the Five Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts, where he earned awards including “Quality District” and “Chief Scout Executive Winner’s Circle”.

As a member of the Corning Rotary Club, Brian has served in numerous roles including as the long-time Rotary Foundation Chairman, a member of the Board of Directors since 2006, and member of the International Committee and Paul Harris Committee. He currently holds the position of First Vice President of the Club, and his accomplishments include spearheading a major restructuring of the Club bylaws, authorship of the President’s Handbook, and playing a key role in the Club’s conversion to the Clubrunner club support software platform.

“Brian is a person of high integrity and moral strength,” says Bill Boland, President-elect of the Corning Rotary Club. “He is a consummate Rotarian, living the Club’s ‘Service Above Self’ motto and the 4-Way Test.”

Klotz, a former high school athlete who has held his school’s record in the 4 x 100k relay since 1999, has been able to combine his passions for cycling and service through the formation of the No Tubes/Corning cycling race team in 2006. As part of the team’s activities, the Gears for the Tiers charitable fund was created in 2009 to raise funds for local charities and provide local children with bike safety education. To date, the 501(c)3 organization has donated over $36,000 to charities including Meals on Wheels, the Josh Palmer Fund, the Corning Area Youth Center, the Dave Clark Foundation, and Twin Tiers Honor Flights. In addition, over 150 children have been taught bicycle safety and received free helmets and safety equipment through the work of the club’s programs.

The Corning Rotary Club presents the Paul Harris award to outstanding Club and community members in recognition of activities that exemplify Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self”.
