Cruising the Maribyrnong

Gale warnings, predictions for Bass Strait of swells to 7 metres and a forecast downpour. Perfect weather for 29 hardy sailors as we headed down the Yarra. Our skipper hove to opposite Swanston Dock to drop the side screens - passengers on the port side were complaining about breaking waves and spray.
Onwards we sailed and calmer waters prevailed as we turned into the Maribyrnong. Our group consensus is that the Maribyrnong is much more picturesque that the Yarra. We sailed past Riverside Golf Course (text Gay Edgecombe 0407 508 303 if you want to join us there on 23 May) and docked at Anglers Tavern for some great meals.
Our return home on Tram #57 provided its own adventure as we zigged and zagged our way through the streets of Ascot Vale, Flemington and North Melbourne. Most of us made it safely home before the heavens opened around 4pm. At 5am the next morning, the water main in North Melbourne opened a 4 metre hole and stopped Tram #57 in its tracks.
We love living on the edge at Melbourne Sunrise Probus Club.
