Pamela spent several years on the water from 1989 onwards with her young family enjoying pristine waters and beaches of the Pacific ocean.
She returned to B.C. and her career but ended up with a divorce in 2005. She lost her husband but kept the boat.
She got her Captains license and started her charter business from Port Hardy to Alaska for 5 years.
She often slept under the stars in the cockpit of the boat. In these years she found out what she didn't know about boating.
She learned all about the tools and engines of the boat.
She then set off down the coast and taught Sail Fest in Mexico. She sailed off to the Galapagos Islands where found the oceans in turmoil.
Tourism is growing there by 12 % per annum which is great for the locals and employment but is it environmentally sustainable?
She asks the question--- If only fish could talk? She is not a marine biologist but why isn't this front page news?
The giant garbage patch in the oceans are growing with the plastic waste every year.
Plastic gets washed out into the ocean then the sun breaks it down into smaller pellets which continue to float around and often get eaten by fish.
This is not only not sustainable for them but gets into the human food chain as well.
There are many poor fisherman that rely on the oceans to provide their living.
We still have no restrictions after the 200 mile limit off shore so the factory ships are at liberty to patrol the open oceans to catch what they want.
There are now 500 dead zones around the world and growing every year.
We must re use rather than just re cycle.
We can start by offering education to the public and clean up our beaches.
