Sam Wong, the Vancouver Club President, introduced our speakers, who were from the Professional Photography Program at Langara College. Darren Bernardt introduced the College to us, as with many educational institutions presently undergoing substantial expansion : it presently embraces 8,500 students in various disciplines. Just as importantly, Darren is a good ambassador for Rotary : he met his wife through the medium of Rotaract. The photography program is over 40 years old, and boasts some 700 graduates, some of whose impressive work he showed us.
Then Charne Baird was introduced to us. A graduate of the program, she recognized the considerable assistance that she had received from Rotary, and demonstrated a video of rain forest that she had created, then showed some old/new pictures of Vancouver (a type of picture always of special interest), and some great pictures of gin and tonic and glistening Benriach. Perhaps most impressive was the time-lapse creation of a wedding cake.
Leigh thanked our speakers and made special mention of Herb Addington, a strong Rotarian, who has a special association with the Langara (Vancouver City College) program.
