Dr Carol Bohlmann gave us a presentation on a club project of the Knysna Rotary Club (in South Africa) called "Know your town".
This is open to Interact members from the seven Knysna high schools, representing the full spectrum of demographic and socio-economic diversity.
They set up interviews with their Interactor members from grade 10 who are interested in attending.
Many apply but during the interview process they whittle that down to a manageable group size of 21.
This is a two day run around their town visiting places of civic interest, including the following:
the Knysna Provincial Hospital, the Magistrates court, the Post Office, a water treatment plant, the National Sea Rescue base (since Knysna is situated on a rocky coast with rough seas), the Knysna base of the South African National Parks (a marine wildlife park), the Town Council’s chambers, a local bank, the prison in Knysna (not for very serious offenders), and the local police station.
Obviously a worthwhile project all round and it surely takes a lot of dedicated Rotarians to run it.
The speaker was thanked by Bill.
What a wonderful photo we have of Carol.
Thanks to her Grandkids! (Ed)
