No Casinos was founded in 1978 by then-Governor Rubin

Askew to prevent casinos from coming to Florida. Their

grassroots campaigns kept casinos out of Florida in 1986

and once again in 1994 when Las Vegas Casino interests

attempted to come to Florida through Constitutional

amendment initiatives.

In 2004, No Casinos rallied to fight a ballot initiative

legalizing slot machines at dog tracks, horse tracks and jai

alai frontons in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.

Despite being outspent 8 to 1, the constitutional

amendment narrowly passed by .8%.

Today, No Casinos continues to oppose the expansion of

gambling and we will learn more their current efforts in

today’s presentation.

Sara Johnson has been involved in politics since 2008 and

joined No Casinos at the beginning of this year as the

Central Florida Field Director.

Our Speaker for July 10th is Missi Hatfield- No Cape Required

Worldwide experiences, brilliant humor and a love of teaching best describe Missi Hatfield.  A  20 year veteran of the US Air Force and a graduate of Barry University, Missi delights and entertains with stories of adventures in foreign lands and discoveries close to home.  Each story is laced with a life taught lesson.  From Drill Sargent to Massage Therapist, Combat Veteran to stepmother of 3 boys, Teacher to Government Administrator,  Missi has not done it "all", but she has done enough to be interesting!
