Paula Akana, Executive Director at Iolani Palace is our speaker for Oct 16.
BIO: Paula Akana is the Executive Director of The Friends of Iolani Palace. Prior to that, she spent 30 plus years as a broadcast journalist for KITV Island News. She is a well-respected journalist, community leader, graduate of the Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism with a minor in Hawaiian anthropology and archeology.
Paula has been involved with a number of local non-profit organizations in recent years including Ma’o Farms and the YMCA, where she is a current member of the Metro Honolulu Board of Directors. She is also a member of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu. She has also been volunteering with the Polynesian Voyaging Society for more than 30 years and has worked with PVS on education initiatives, voyage planning and fundraising efforts.
