Mark has diverse backgrounds both academically and professionally; he has three advanced degrees including MS in Mechanical Engineering and MS/Ph.D. in Regional Science (Economic Geography) from Cornell University, where he studied Complexity Science and collective human behaviors. His professional background includes consulting, retail, international trading, advertising, marketing research, and aviation industries.
 

Mark 15+ years’ experience with data science including predictive modeling, machine learning methods, optimization, computer vision and A.I. At Oceanit, he has developed an A.I. “toolbox” for A.I. workshops for educators and entrepreneurs. He is currently developing an A.I.-based computer vision model for detecting public infrastructure damages caused by natural disasters.

During the 2014 lava flow crisis in the Big Island of Hawaii Mark became known as a data visualization expert for socioeconomic data and has been featured in various news media. When the lava flow crisis took place again in 2018, he was invited to join the U.S. Department of the Interior Strategic Science Group to contribute his knowledge and experiences.
