Through Susan’s passion for serving others, she discovered her calling in the health care field. She currently serves as The Queen’s Health Systems Senior Vice President, West O‘ahu Region and the Chief Operating Officer, The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu, overseeing operations and providing leadership in the growth and development of the 20-acre campus. Susan joined Queen’s in 2013, led the 150 million dollar renovation and opened the hospital in May, 2014. Since that time, they have become the second busiest emergency department in the state (second to our Punchbowl campus). New services have been added, including pediatric after hours care, which grew to include adults. With the acquisition of the Sullivan Care Center, they were able to add wound care, chemotherapy, infusion services, pulmonary clinic and a sleep lab. Two large clinics have opened in September 2020 and additional services of ENT, audiology and outpatient physical therapy were added, as well as increasing existing specialty services. For the West campus and staff, they are the third medical center in the nation to be a Certified Blue Zones employer and have the state’s first K-9 unit in a Hawaii hospital to keep the staff and patients safe. Previously, Susan served as the Hawaii Regional Hospital Administrator and Regional Vice President for Quality, Safety and Service for the Kaiser Permanente FoundationHealthPlanandHospital,a positionsheheldfor10 years. At Kaiser,shemanaged their 285-bed hospital,whichhadanannualoperatingbudgetof$300millionanda staffofover 2000. Susan attendedPunahou,earnedan undergraduatedegreein PsychologyfromtheUniversityofHawaii and an MBAin Health Servicesfrom the University of Dallas. Hersuccessful career in the health care field has also included positions at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu, the Women’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA, and theWomen’sHospitalofCentennialMedicalCenterinNashville,TN.
