Staying Alive project - Saving lives with CPR & AEDs
Dec. 07, 2016
Dr. Goodman is a longtime Kauai resident and a member of the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay. Jeff has helped to spearhead a project called Staying Alive - designed to train people to do CPR and use AED's (automated external defibrillator) which can help save a person suffering sudden cardiac arrest. According to Pamela Foster, a registered nurse and owner of AED Institute and founder of Hawaii Heart Foundation, sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death. Key for survival is someone recognizing what is happening, calling 911 and starting CPR to keep the blood pumping. Dr. Jeff will explain the medical science and the goals of the Staying Alive project. |

Habitat's 2017 Goals & Group Work Days
Jan. 18, 2017
Stephen is the executive director of Kauai's Habitat for Humanity. Since taking the reins in 2007, and building upon his many years of experience both in Hawai‘i and West Virginia, Stephen has brought the Kaua‘i affiliate through major growth and transition. Under his leadership, Kaua‘i Habitat is developing the ‘Ele‘ele Iluna site of 125 affordable homes, has built the internal capacity of the affiliate, and has grown the size of the affiliate from small to medium. In addition to the 125 fee simple home ownership opportunities for low income families, Stephen pioneered the affiliate’s expansion to working with families that had their own land, creative use of federal funding for lot purchase, and the new Repair and Renovation program. Stephen’s many years of Habitat experience in Hawai‘i and West Virginia have helped position the Kaua‘i affiliate toward enabling even more affordable home ownership opportunities to Kaua‘i’s families in need. |
