Dr. Gordon Zimmerman
Communication and Public Speaking

Dr. Zimmerman (Ph.D., U. of Minnesota) is professor emeritus in Communication at the University of Nevada, Reno.  His business, Zimmerman Consulting, provides training and development services for judges, lawyers and managers. 

Dr. Zimmerman has conducted training for the American Bar Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Federal Judicial Center, Naval Justice School, Price Waterhouse, several state bar associations and private law firms and several state administrative offices of the courts.

He has trained judges in 40 states and 8 Canadian provinces on the subject: “Communication in the Courtroom.”  His faculty development programs have yielded over 2000 instructors-- judges, lawyers and managers who teach their colleagues using modern adult learning methods.

In 1995, Dr. Zimmerman taught High Commercial Court Judges in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, and has trained CLE and judicial education faculty from the new Central Asia republics.  He was one of the featured NJC faculty on CBS’s “60 Minutes.”  His program for the Washington State Bar won the “Best of 1995_ award presented by the international Association for Continuing Legal Education.

Dr. Zimmerman is a frequent guest speaker for private and public sector organizations on such topics as management communication, team building, presentation skills and strategic planning.  He has published 3 textbooks: Communication in Organizations, Speech Communication, and Public Speaking Today.  He developed 3 educational videotapes for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
