Come volunteer with fellow Reno Rotarians at a fun Lemelson Family STEM Night!
Interested in helping the kids at Lemelson STEM Academy?
Interested in helping parents engage in their students' STEM education?
Who: Rotarians / Spouses / Friends
What: Video of Science Nights
- 15mins training
- 1 hour leading a STEM station for families (like using differnet types of pliers and scissors to explore what types of bird's beaks are best suited to eat which types of bird feed)
- 15 minutes supporting families as they start their family engineering challenge (like building a wind-powered car)
When: Sept 17, Arrive at 4:45pm, Families will arrive starting 5pm. Ends ~6:15pm
Where: 2001 Soaring Eagle Dr, Reno, NV 89512
Why: It is a LOT of fun and makes a BIG difference. A teacher at this event several years ago pulled me aside and said, "Oh my gosh, there are fathers here!" These events help truly bring the school community together in ways that do not often happen for these kids. Our club provides a wide range of support to this high-need school, across reading-buddies, STEM education, Math Club, and service projects, and this concerted effort in conjunction with their staff ismaking a big impact on their school community.
How: All you need to know is more science than a 2nd Grader! You don't need to have a science background, just bring an interest in helping families learn and explore together.
