A squall of rain today did not dampen Rotary spirit. For those of us who could attend, we learned about Techability, a research and innovation project that ASTTBC, the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC does on behalf of many citizens who have some sort of disability. Jacqueline B. de Raa, Manager of Executive Initiatives and Community Relations showed some interesting statistics how few people with disabilities find fruitful and meaningful technical employment. Whilst companies claim being open and supportive of employing and offer job shadowing to candidate, statistics reveal how poorly our society is providing training and jobs. ASTTBC is actively connecting career-oriented job seekers with disabilities/diverse abilities to technical occupations in B.C. These are very positive steps for finding very capable people for progressive companies. Jacqueline was joined today by her colleague Warren Walker.
Very nice for Grace Tsang from RC Richmond Sunset to visit us, and also to meet a visiting Rotarian from Michigan, Dr. Raj Prakash, who took a bit of time out of his vacation for a make-up meeting with our club.
